🎯 NAAGA Shooting League September Mini Competition: Give the Two-Two-Two Drill a Try!
Looking for a new challenge to add to your next range session?
The NAAGA Shooting League has released its September 2026 Mini Competition, and we’re sharing it with Bass Reeves Gun Club members who may want to put their skills to the test.
This month’s featured challenge is the Two-Two-Two Drill, adopted from firearms instructor Erick Gelhaus. It is a short, six-round drill designed to test several fundamental pistol skills while giving shooters a measurable benchmark they can use to track their progress.
What Is the Two-Two-Two Drill?
The drill is fired at 7 yards with a 10-second par time. Shooters begin from the holster, where permitted and appropriate, or from the low-ready position.
The six-round course includes:
2 rounds dominant-hand (strong-hand) only
Slide-lock reload
2 rounds two-handed
Slide-lock reload
2 rounds non-dominant (support-hand) only
The challenge uses the B-8 portion of the NAAGA Official Target within the tombstone, or a standard B-8-style target.
Shooters record both their time and hits and can repeat the drill to work toward better accuracy, faster execution, or both.
A Simple Way to Benchmark Your Skills
One of the benefits of structured drills is having something measurable to work toward.
Rather than simply putting rounds on a target, the Two-Two-Two Drill challenges shooters to bring together several skills—including accuracy, one-handed shooting, recoil management, reloads, and consistency—within one short exercise.
You don't have to be a competition shooter to participate. Use the drill as an opportunity to see where your skills are today and identify areas you may want to work on during future training.
Then try it again and see if you can beat your previous performance!
Want to Participate?
The NAAGA Shooting League has provided the complete course of fire, target information, submission instructions, and additional training information in its September Mini Competition newsletter.
Participants can also submit a photo of their target or a video of their run to the NAAGA Shooting League using the submission information included in the document.
If you decide to give the challenge a try, have fun, train safely, and see what you can do with six rounds!
Please note:Â This Mini Competition is an initiative of the NAAGA Shooting League. Bass Reeves Gun Club is sharing the opportunity with our members and is not administering the competition.
